"I don't know what I'd do if I came home to find him in a dress."

Imagine your favorite show, of which you've seen every episode. Then five years go by. Then you rent something by accident that you realize is not only an episode you've never seen, but the best episode. the FIRST episode.
I am watching the pilot episode of Kids in the Hall. I'm pretty sure I've never seen this, though I thought I had. It's like beautiful theater. They're geniuses. "They're children!"
I'm going to watch it again when it's over. This is really great.

Yeah, I . . . couldn't quite stay away.

13 May 2008

My mom brought some of her wedding pictures down to new york this weekend for some reason, and I scanned the one below. It's the last picture in their wedding album and it makes me smile. Dad in his little fruit hat. Weirdos.

My horoscope said today that I am going to GO! TOO! FAR! and push away the people I am trying to attract. Well. Ok. I'll keep to myself for the rest of the day if you say so, weird lady in a cape, but I am not making any promises.

08 May 2008

need:
a nice picture of myself with my hair like this, because I am GROWING IT OUT FOREVER.
my muuuuusic! My itunes is so empty, so so empty.
to get off the computer and go to the gym before I lie down and sleep until it's too late.
groceries

like:
I've had 2 steaks in the past month. I am enjoying the re-introduction of delicious beef into my life.
That Iron Man film. Quite the ride!

have:
a mom coming into town tomorrow
a place in a lottery pool
a camera I haven't used in a whole week.

I am probably going to be winding this blog up pretty soon. I'm going to sleep on it for a few more days, just because it's kind of a big decision. I've enjoyed it quite a lot, but these days very few people visit anymore, and those who do are mostly my friends, who I could just talk to, if I were the type of person to do that. I'm also starting to feel a little more like it's not a good idea to have so much of my life on display. I'd like people to get to know me through me, not through some weird, badly phrased, old diary entry.
I might do something like a tumblr someday, with pictures I take and kittens and jokes and stuff. But the personal stuff that I put in here before I realized how many people would find it is making me retro-cringe.
It's tough, though. I've had this longer than anything.

yeah. I'm probably going to just take a nap.

04 May 2008

perhaps, perhaps, perhaps

I netflixed and watched the entire second season of Coupling this weekend. Not in the hungry-for-it way I devoured Friday Night Lights, or the sad and addictive way I clung to every episode of Buffy, this is more like the time my uncle caught my cousins smoking and lined five of them up against the garage and made them smoke cigars until they threw up. It's just so cheeky and CLEVAH! And British. And they say "breasts" in every episode. I love the Brits. You got me.
I also can't get the theme song out of my head. Maddening.

I am currently bored out of my mind. Seriously, painfully bored.

03 May 2008

Yesterday, while I was calling in a report, I tipped my head to the side and I felt my desk flip over. Then I had some trouble walking. The ladies at work kicked me out and told me to see my doctor. I was diagnosed with mild vertigo, which is awesome because a) of all the things I could have wrong with me its really manageable and mild and b) it's an old-timey disease, like pleurisy or Legionnaire's or railway spine*. Very steampunk. Also, that explains the times in the past when it's happened and I thought I was diabetic or something worse. F that S! The troubling thing is, my doctor never asked me if I drove, which I think is kind of important. If that happened to me behind the wheel of a car, it would be bad news, indeed. Good thing I am afraid of driving, i guess?

I have to think of something dessertish for this party tonight. The clock is ticking. I wish I were better at being a girl.

*more information about railway spine can be found on the internet.

somebody didn't have an umbrella today.

And it's me!

I like some of these. I'm proud of the Foley. They're dark and blurry, but history will prove: I am into that.
I am nauseated always. Is that a thing?

"I'm an emotional vegetarian. I know a lot of vegetarians and we like the same films."

Got up, got starbucks, on-demanded an episode of Coupling for the third time because I've never seen the end, said "fuck this apartment" three times. Average Sunday morning.

26 April 2008

This is a funnier blog than the one you are reading right now. Greg Johnson was the name of my department manager when I worked general merchandise at Tops Friendly Markets. He used to always say the store manager "had a boner for me", which I found out a few awkward months later meant he wanted to fire me, and not what I thought it meant. It was a relief.

I think someone else my have my aol im login. I get kicked off all day for no reason, and occasionally I am logged in two places at once. I never really use it except once in a while at work and once in a while at home, so I might delete. I'm sure it's fine, but there's always that weird chance someone is pretending to be me. That would be pointless, and a bad idea.

Today I am doing a shoot where I'm a caller on a sex talk show, and then I am going to a "passion party". Let's hope my friends still respect me in the morning!!?!? Right?! Interrobang!? LOLerskatez! They won't.

It definitely had its highlights, and it certainly had its charm, but overall: fuck this week. Thank you for ending, week.

23 April 2008

very nice

This is a sketch I was in this past Monday evening that was skillfully animated by Scott Bateman and graciously featured on salon.com. Not necessarily safe for work. I'm debating if I should send it to my mom.

(here are two websites I meant to add to my "what I am liking" update yesterday. dark roasted blend and neatorama. Fun diversions for when you are enjoying a coffee break while crunching the numbers, am I right?)

22 April 2008

Here is a list of things I like:

I saw two strangers (man and woman) sitting next to one another on the subway wearing the same kind of shoes.
When I wake up and I am still kind of snoring and I hear it.
Salty pretzels.
Solid color v-neck knit shirts. I have a lot of them.
Xander's new spring hat.
.
That I have been waking up early.
This website.
My dry erase board which i have filled with inspirational mantras.
When people do and say things that are so funny I can't take it.
I got my tax return already.
Really old computers.
When good things happen to people i care about.

Pretty good, actually. Thanks for asking.

15 April 2008

I looked back and re-read some old entries. Man, if you read this thing and you're still my friend, bless both our hearts.

Have you ever had one of those days where a bunch of good things happen to people you love (and maybe a little something to you, too) and you can't SAY ANYTHING ABOUT IT? YOU JUST HAVE TO STEW IN YOUR APARTMENT AND WATCH THE BIGGEST LOSER AND MAYBE EAT PRETZEL RODS?

It's better than bad things, I say.

|

13 April 2008

My niece is actually pretty hilarious.

|

Even though the movie was meh (Smart People) and the pretzel bites gave me and Tracey stomach aches, being able to put on some shoes and walk one block to a see a movie is pretty choice. I recommend it!
Look out little ipod! I spent three minutes and figured out how to get my music on here! problem solved!

12 April 2008

I resolved my couch situation, so I get to keep it (technically), but I've had to tell the few people who responded from craigslist that it was off the market.

that stinks i would have bought it today and moved it today. i would have done that on wednesday too....oh well.

Well, I think your attitude stinks! NO COUCH FOR YOU! NOT TODAY WEDNESDAY OR ANY DAY!

11 April 2008

a little austen

I am not, by the way, still reading sense and sensibility. It's just said that on my sidebar for a year. I really did read almost all of it before I realized it wasn't Pride and Prejudice, and then I gave up. (Also, Becoming Jane was pretty bad.) I have read books since then, I just haven't felt like updating my template. The last book I read was half of The Alchemist, which I picked up at the airport when they didn't have my penny press variety puzzle book* and my ipod froze and died and my flight was delayed for 3 hours. It's good. I should finish it.

I am alone in my apartment tonight, like most nights now. There are always strange noises outside my bedroom door that I am not making up that are real and are just the house settling, I know. I'm not scared like I used to get when I was alone at my old place, but it's still mildly disconcerting. I'm almost not too scared to go to the bathroom anymore, so that's progress.

*I just need a tweety sweatshirt and a gray perm to complete the look. And some sort of lanyard with pictures of my niece and nephews on it. Also, Dell press publishes one that is not as good.

10 April 2008

not much, you?

One of my dearest friends came to see my wednesday show (yay that she came, boo to our tanky show) and she is about to become a part of something huge that will be a wonderful gift to her life, and I can't say anything (which is killing me) but it is so nice and so deserved. I like when good things happen to good people. And she is one of those folks who just busts her ass all of the time, and this opportunity wasn't even something that she was looking for. It was like she was busy facing one direction, and a bigger opportunity than she had imagined tapped her on the shoulder from another direction. The real gifts find you, sometimes, is what I find.
Anyway.
The big news in my life is I got Icee brand slushy freezey pops, and they are actually kind of gross. I like my frozen pops frozen, nomesayin?

I like this art.

06 April 2008

This afternoon I am grounding myself. I have to sit and watch my netflix, eat self-prepared food and take a nap. Maybe I'll do some organizing if the mood hits me.
I also should blog. Because i should.

Here are some random items that aren't really worth a whole post on their own.

I can't get enough of M. Ward. It's awful.
Also, my friends put up a live version of The Wall again. Adam and Mo are both in it, and now I am listening to Pink Floyd. I am a little in love, especially with the guitar parts. I think that's ok.

I did a shoot today where I painted lines on my face with white out. It was my idea! White out is very, very hard to wash off of your skin! Ya haveta scrape it with ya finganails!

I played Civilization yesterday. The 70's board game, not the computer game. We played for 5 hours! And we only got to the Bronze Age! It was not the kind of fun I am used to having, but it was still kind of fun.

I need a pedicure.

There is nothing else going on in my life that I can think of at this moment.

Have you seen this abdomen?

I don't remember who this is. I took this maybe three weeks ago. I am assuming it's Kevin Townley, but that seems too easy.

I loved my hair too, but . . . we needed to take a break.

Ah well.

Tomorrow: go back to the old place and sort out junk, go to aeroporto, fly away
This weekend: chocolate, babytime, goofing around.
next week: more workouts, dinner with friends, one yoga date
try: being autonomous
I am grateful for: white noise, good music, deep sleeps on the best bed

18 March 2008

I can't believe I only did 8 posts for bufblopofo. that is pathetic. I didn't even merit an exclamation point!

Here are currents, olde-school style:

drink: blue moon
eat: a burger from the Sarajevo place on the corner
regret: the Sarajevo burger I ate
pants: favorite gap capri sweats
tv: scrubs
movie: Becoming Jane, when I get around to it
sound: fan
feel: debbie downer
need: vacation, good laugh/cry
loving: the R train
trying: not to fuck things up, in general.

Tomorrow:
work, work out (yes, no, YES) coachycoach
This weekend: Buffalo
next week: settle in
try: not to feel as big as a planet/act the fool

It'll be good to go home for a while. Cuddle a baby, stare at my parents, eat a chicken wing, be all me with my friendyfriends. Stuff and stuff.

15 March 2008

Strange days are these

My friend had some cancer taken off of her back and that left a wound that for some crazy reason kept bleeding for 24 hours after her surgery. Amy and I went over last night and watched Into The Wild and took turns pressing on her cancerhole until about 3. It's not bleeding anymore, and it's not cancer anymore but it's still effed up.

Today I moved into a new apartment, so I live here now. So that's weird.

14 March 2008

The real final assignment

BufBloPoFo Topic for Day 14: Link to whatever you posted exactly one year ago (or whatever’s closest), and give your readers an update on that topic. If you haven’t been writing for a year, give us a list of three or four things that are going on in your life right now that you’ll want to update one year from now at the end of BufBloPoFo09.

Last year on this day, I started shooting for Improv School. Since then, the channel has changed direction, focusing more on "urban comedy". Since the cast was all white and nerdy, the many, many hours we shot will never be seen by anyone, ever. Also, I dated one of the camera men from that show for a while after we finished shooting, which was nice.

A few days after I posted about it, I posted the The Greatest Picture Ever Taken of Anything. Which is, a schnauzer getting a tubby tub.

I hope I did well on the bufblopofo like a qualified mofo. I screwed up a few times because I work and socialize and do showy shows. Also, I've never been much of an over achiever. Or an achiever in much of any sense. I have enjoyed reading everyone blogs the past two weeks. I like all of you very very much, and though we may not be blogging diligently every day for a project, maybe we can keep it up a little bit. You are all very sweet, and very interesting and you keep me company. I'd like more of that, please.

BufBloPoFo! The Final Countdown!
The almost final assignment: what tv are we looking forward to?

I am looking forward to new The Office/30 Rock. I always love Ghost Hunters. Sadly, I haven't gotten into anything else, really. I have watched Lost in pieces, and Celebrity Rehab. Mostly when I get in front of the tv it is Saturday during the day, when I'll watch anything at all, or between 10:30-midnight, when I'll watchWhatever is on Food network or Fox (the two channels I get in my bedroom) So, Good eats, Ace of cakes, Scrubs, or Iron Chef. Also, I will say, 10 items or less is kind of cute and funny in a silly way. I am just saying.
That's a lotta t and v for someone who claims to not watch too much t and v.

Alex- I will netflix Madmen asap.

In other news, I am moving tomorrow, into a smaller place. It is one block from the movie theater and the museum of the moving image, and there is a huge back yard. I am not allowed to get a puppy, but I think I might get a pretend puppy who will enjoy the yard more than I probably will. It's an adventure!
